More Than Dance

We are an innovative company, created to fulfill the vision of sharing God's Glory through dance and movement. We have our foundation firmly set in the Christian Faith and the knowledge that God has gifted us to spread His word in a dynamic, energetic celebration of His love for each and every one of us.

Our experienced team are members of the Christian Dance Fellowship of Britain.

Beyond the Barricades

‘DANCE!’ spoke the Lord; the Edinburgh fringe saw the unwrapping of Beyond the Barricades in 1989.

Guided by Anne & Derek Marr supported through the gifts of Andy Raine and many others, Beyond the Barricades evolved through the energy, commitment and support of many men, women, children, families and communities.

Invitations came to contribute to gatherings in Northern Ireland and elsewhere in the UK, and to lead workshops in churches, schools.
Requests came for presentations in the public arena such as the Tall Ships Event, the Metro Centre and Greenbelt.

It is not everyone’s cup of tea, as they say, but for many, the dance has presented a new and liberating way of exploring spirituality and faith and of expressing that deeper sense of wonder and joy which cannot always be accessed by words alone.

Our raison d’être is not to be skilled dancers, our intent and purpose is to reflect a spirit for exploration…remembering that we are witnesses to the fact that God uses our limitations to provide a passport to new possibilities.
Wheelchairs, dementia, deafness, arthritis, lack of confidence, two left feet, or simply being ‘ordinary’… have never proved to big a problem for God to ask ‘May I have this dance?

God has worked through Beyond the Barricades to challenge many assumptions and open new attitudes and opportunities in life, for those who experience the creative input and for those who dance/choreograph/technical work within the group itself.

Several members of the group have been inspired to develop their dance abilities into the professional arena through training in dance at universities and at Laban Academy in London.

Beyond the barricades is team - work across denominational boundaries and constantly seeks to help us all recognise Christ in unexpected places.

The evolutionary process brings natural changes and as the years have passed so the people, their style and the dynamics of the work have changed. Yet beyond all the early imaginings, Beyond the Barricades is still a living witness to the power of Christ in ordinary lives.

 

 

We ask that you hold in your prayers Beyond the Barricades:
Anne & Derek for being open to God and for moving with him as he danced in their lives.
For all who have and are a part of this blessed group, for the many gifts not just in dance, shared and lived.

For the work God calls us too, for the people we share our stories and dances with, May you be inspired to answer the call of God to move Beyond the Barricades that we place in our lives and hearts.
